They are coming out at an alarming rate! Wiry gray and white strings, technically called hairs, which first began appearing just here and there in my 30s. Now after going over the hill of 50, these things are shooting out like fireworks! What is an aging woman of the 21st century to do?! Our society bestows a great pressure for keeping a youthful appearance. Aging is not welcomed, and anti-aging accommodations are a big business. There are creams, makeup, and hair colors to help hide and prevent the inevitable. Some will even go as far as Botox and plastic surgery to aid in their youthful appearance. How much money, time, and effort should a woman spend on this losing battle? Each Christian woman should take this question before the Lord, and see how our relationship with Him is being affected in this battle.
Nowhere in Scripture are we taught to follow the ways of the culture, but the pressures of popular culture can push us into the vain patterns of the world. (1 John 2:15-17) This is a constant battle for every Christian. Our flesh is dying, but our soul is eternal. We must be prayerfully discerning in our pilgrimage here not to fall into sin. We should study God’s Word and apply it to EVERY area (Proverbs 3:5-6) of our life, and this includes our appearance.
Psalms 71:18 “Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed Thy strength unto this generation, and Thy power to every one that is to come.”
God has each of us here for such a time as this. (Esther 4:14) We all have a realm of influence in this generation and the generations to come. My personal prayer is that with every springy gray hair that sprouts from my scalp, I will be reminded that as long as God gives me breath, I’m still here for HIS purpose. No matter how gray and wrinkled I become, I want my crown to bring HIM glory!
