Read Psalm 34
To magnify means to make something larger. A magnifying glass comes from the word “magnify”. We use a magnifying glass to help us see things closer or to get a better view. When we look at each other with a magnifying glass and get a closeup view of ourselves, we are able to get a better look and can see our imperfections. Ha! I know for myself, I am not a fan of closeup pictures. When I put my face closer in the mirror, I get a better view of all the blackheads and wrinkles. Ugh.
What do we see when we magnify the Lord?
Psalm 34:3 reads “O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together.”
Contrary to what we see when we magnify or get a closeup shot of ourselves… When we magnify the LORD, we are magnifying perfection. Think about that. Magnifying perfection! Getting a closeup shot of His perfect, flawless beauty! His holiness! His glory! Wow, what a magnificent mighty God!
The nearer we are to our LORD, the more beautiful He becomes in our eyes. In Psalms 34:5 we read, “They looked unto Him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.” As the moon reflects the sun’s light and glows in the darkness of night, we with our gazes fixed upon the Lord, reflect His glory. His beauty shines in and through us. Oh, how this dark world needs to see the Light of Christ shining through us!
In verse 4 we read, “I sought the LORD, and He heard me and delivered me from all my fears.”
God delivers us from our fears. He gives us power and ability, love and concern for others, sound, disciplined thinking. (2 Timothy 1:7) When we draw near to the Lord and obtain a better view of HIM, our fears of this dark world will fade.
Verse 8 says, “O taste and see, that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.”
Have you tasted? Have you seen? David encouraged others to magnify the Lord with him, to taste, to see, and to trust in God.
The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir sings a song titled “Psalm 34”. I’ve put the link of this performance with this blog. After meditating through Psalm 34, I watched this video and the Holy Spirit enriched my heart in worship. May you be encouraged today! Will you magnify the Lord with me? Let us exalt His name together! Taste, see, and discover His perfect beauty!❤️🎶
